I am a 4th year PhD student at the University of Ottawa in the Chemistry department. My research focuses on discovering and synthesizing small molecule carbohydrates that will inhibit ice growth during the cryopreservation of biological samples. By decreasing the growth of ice we will decrease the damage that occurs during freezing and thawing, therefore resulting in more viable samples post-thaw. Once I’m finished my PhD, I would like to continue in research and work as a postdoc in the field of drug discovery / drug synthesis. I have had a passion for chemistry ever since my second year organic chemistry class and I am excited to continue growing and learning in this field. I am also very proud to be #BlackInChem 🎉
